Welcome back friends, if you missed Part 1 : Leadership, & Part 2: Direction you can check on above links. We will continue on the next part RECEPTIVITY — Be a Good Listener.

An Open Mind is leaders first GIFT

In a leadership role, being receptive allows others the space for inspiration and growth. The best leaders are great listeners who not only guide, but also support others and create a sense of trust. When we’re receptive we are receiving information and knowledge from a variety of sources. We’re open to new ideas and notice things that we may not have when we are too busy being hard focused on the end goal.

Information is a gift. After we receive it, we can choose what to do with it. But failure to even acknowledge the information can be disastrous. Opportunities lost, employees demoralised, customers gone to competitors.

We should always remember that in order to full-fill the thirst you need to be thirsty, similarly When Student is Ready, Teacher will Emerge. Teacher can be in any form Book, Movie, a Person seating next to you or anyone. The question is are we ready or not, try asking yourself AM I READY FOR CHANGE, AM I OPEN FOR LEARNING & RECEIVING FEEDBACK.

Interesting fact about MIND & PARACHUTE is that they only work when they are OPEN.

Let me tell you one small incident i read in one of Jeff Bezos(CEO of Amazon) interview.

“We were so inefficient with our operations and logistics in those early days when there were just 10 of us.”

One of those inefficiencies was the method of packing orders.

During the first month of launching Amazon, I (Bezos) and my employees would pack orders with hands and knees on cement floors, when one of my 10 employees had an idea that ultimately “doubled” our productivity.

“I said to one of the software engineers who was packing alongside me, ‘You know what we should do? We should get knee pads.’ And he looked at me like I was the dumbest guy he had ever seen in his life, and he said ‘Jeff, we should get packing tables.”

~ Jeff Bezos

Interesting right ? If we observe from above incident, we get so caught up & busy in the things we are doing that we fail to see ahead. So, receiving feedbacks, listening to others, working on it & constructing on it for making improvements is the key part to reach the goal successfully.

We make use of various platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Uber, Ola, Swiggy, Zomato or even Microsoft Teams, Whatsapp Call, Zoom, Hangouts etc., we always have seen that we have been asked to give feedbacks about the service we received. So, learning from receiving feedbacks is the one of the best and proven approach to progress. Improve and then improvise on the services or product you are offering.

Imagination & Experience → can do wonders if experience of past and imagination of future can be combined

The gift of RECEPTIVITY. Information can mean better leadership, better organisations, better products and services. Ask for information and absorb it. Failure to receive facts willingly can mean failure. Fatal failure.
